OUR OFFICERS

DU Alpine Club is a student-led club on campus. Our leadership team plan trip, manage the finances social media, fundraising, on-campus events, alumni relations, and photography and more.  The Alpine Club, while student run is administratively housed in the  Division of the James C. Kennedy Mountain Campus, Wellness &  Recreation at the University of Denver to help us ensure quality and safety of all programs. 

Interested in joining the DUAC leadership team? Leadership elections occur at the end of Winter Quarter. These elections are open to all DUAC members. We always welcome any undergraduate DU student with a love for the outdoors to apply!

MEET THE OFFICERS!

Emily Heinen

CO-PRESIDENT

Emily grew up in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Despite the winters that many believe keep Minnesotans inside for 8 months out of the year, she grew up spending a lot of time outside, especially skiing, hiking, biking, and doing various other lake activities (Land o’ Lakes™️). With 187 lakes down, she has got 9817 lakes to go. She is a senior double majoring in international studies and political science. Her favorite part about DUAC is the community! P.S. 9 times out of 10 you'll spot her wearing her red sunglasses.​

What scents would be in a candle named after you?
Eucalyptus, margarita, and sweat

Walker Green

CO-PRESIDENT

Walker is a senior from Westport, Connecticut who grew up skiing the intimidating hills of New England and canoeing the lakes of Canada. His talents include doing a killer Australian accent on command, and he is for sure a force to be reckoned with in the canoe. Walker is majoring in marketing with a minor in health sciences. He enjoys live music, skiing down mountains and sometimes climbing up them! Walker loves the support and stoke people have for each other in DUAC and cannot wait to be surrounded by this in the years to come.

Garrett Boschen

VICE PRESIDENT

Garrett is a senior from Boston, Massachusetts who grew up snowboarding and playing football (he's a Celtics fan). He came to Colorado in search of deeper snow and bigger mountains (believe it or not, he found both). Garrett is double majoring in psychology and political science. Other than snowboarding, his hobbies include climbing, camping, hunting, and sharing laughs with friends. His favorite thing about DUAC is meeting new people who love the outdoors and spreading all the stoke.

Kathleen Hopps

SECRETARY

Kathleen “Bucket” Hopps is from north of Chicago, but if anyone asks, she'll tell you she's from Canada. In her free time, Kathleen enjoys climbing, skiing, backpacking, and the occasional sewing. She is a senior majoring in biological sciences and psychology with minors in medical physics and chemistry and a DREAM to work in wilderness medicine. Her hobbies include sipping decaffeinated coffee and wearing a cowboy hat. She loves how DUAC brings people together and spreads the stoke like butter on toast.

Gibby Scott

TREASURER

Gibby is a senior from Falmouth, Maine majoring in RE and construction management. He grew up skiing Sugarloaf in the winters and partaking in various lake activities all summer long. His favorite activity is skiing, but he also enjoys hiking, wake surfing, and playing the guitar (Wagon Wheel, anyone?). His favorite thing about DUAC is the availability and affordability the club provides for students to get out of Denver, especially for those without a means of transportation.

John Seward

ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES /
​RISK MANAGER

John "Boss Man" Seward is a lifelong Coloradan and grew up exploring the Rocky Mountains. He is a senior studying public policy and sociology. He spends his summers as a parks manager for a Colorado special district. John is an avid spreadsheet lover and can can do some real damage if you let him near Excel. He's and EMT and fixes people when they break. When he's not at school or working you'll find John skiing, hiking or camping.

Being mean.

Cassidy Bromka

SPONSORSHIP COORDINATOR

Cassidy, more formally known as Aspen, is from Aspen, Colorado where she grew up foraging for and feasting on wild fruit whilst camping (she from the woods). She is a senior majoring in environmental sciences with a minor in sustainability (probably GIS too, who knows). Her hobbies include skiing, hiking, reading, and cooking. She also enjoys soaking up the sun and hearing the trees creak. Cassidy loves all the people you can meet through Alpine Club and the access to the outdoors that the club provides!

Sally Thornton-White

GEAR MANAGER

Sally is a senior from Winthrop, Washington where she grew up doing various mountain and rural town things (when we say rural, we mean RURAL). She’s majoring in environmental science and public policy. In her free time, she enjoys riding bicycles, skiing, climbing rocks, and exploring the mountains. She loves how DUAC provides amazing opportunities for people to access the outdoors!

Jack "Dubs" Weinmeister

ON-CAMPUS PRESENCE

Dubs, sometimes referred to as Jack, is a senior from Burnsville, North Carolina majoring in ecology and biodiversity. His favorite things to do outside are to climb, backcountry snowboard, whitewater kayak, and flyfish. Dubs is NASTY at climbing – we've never seen someone shimmy up a crack so fast. His favorite thing about DUAC is the absolute stoke on trips: everyone is so keen to be outside and there’s such a great fellowship between all the officers and trip participants. What a better way to enjoy the outdoors?!

If you could make one small change in the world, what would it be?
Straight up, if we didn't have to deal with climate change that'd be killer

What's the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?
Cow tongue – just tasted like chewy bacon, pretty ok.

Callum Eager

TRANSPORTATION

Callum grew up in the concrete jungle of Atlanta, Georgia. Despite this, his love for the outdoors was forged early while exploring the Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains. However, since venturing to Colorado, he quickly fell in love with the Rockies. Callum is a junior majoring in journalism and enjoys climbing, mountain biking, fly fishing, backpacking. Given the lack of snow in the Southeast, he excelled in the art of skiing rather fast. Callum is also gluten-free and carries a loaf of GF bread with him wherever he goes. His favorite part about DUAC is all of the members and officers that define the club, spreading their stoke for the mountains.

Libby Gardner

MERCHANDISE

Libby is a junior from somewhere in the east coast (maybe Connecticut or Vermont? Probably not the cool NE states). She is studying international studies and sustainability (cuz Mother Earth, duh). Her favorite hobbies are skiing, climbing, and riding bicycles--but she also dabbles in arts n' crafts (we hope she knits). Her favorite thing about DUAC are all the awesome people she’s met because of it! Pro-tip: ask her about the time she danced with the one & only Backpack Kid.

Nate Murawski

TRANSPORTATION

Nate is a freshman studying international studies from Randolph, Vermont (aka massive maple syrup Stan). His favorite outdoor activities are skiing, backpacking... really anything that takes him outside to cool places. Growing up in Vermont, Nate started skiing before he could walk, but alpine club has given him the opportunity to get more involved in hiking and climbing. Nate thinks that the most important aspect of DUAC is that allows students to get out and experience the natural beauty of this region in a fun and affordable way!

Aidan Faulstich

ASST. TREASURER

Aidan is a sophomore majoring in political science from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He grew up skiing in the treacherous white mountains since before he could walk (true fact) and has been in love with the sport ever since. Since coming to Colorado, he's found himself getting into backcountry skiing along the front range. Aidan loves the Rockies for the opportunities in hiking, fishing, and skiing. His favorite thing about DU is the awesome outdoorsing community and the chance to wear a cowboy hat at every opportunity (can't disagree with this one). Aidan loves that DUAC brings people together, venturing to the mountains to enjoy what they love.

Avery Thiemann

SOCIAL MEDIA

Avery is a freshman from the small farm town of Prosser, Washington. She is majoring in biology with minors in chemistry and kinesiology (hi future PA!). Her first love is running, and also gets sendy with hiking, backpacking, climbing, and doing backwards somersaults on her snowboard. She is an avid cat/kitten lover (red flag???) and a wonderfully kind human being. Avery is also an OG DUAC member... talk about Alpine 101. Her favorite thing about DUAC is getting to go to some cool places and meet even cooler people.

What's the weirdest food you've ever eaten?
​I am a picky person. There is not a food I have eaten that can be considered weird.

Cat Malatesta

SOCIAL MEDIA

Cat is an environmental science major with minors in sustainability. She is from Boxford, Massachusetts, where she grew up exploring the woods as a ski racer. Cat is also the classic New England kid who spends her summers as an overnight camp counselor. Cat's activities of choice include speedy skiing, climbing, and growing plants on her dorm windowsill (ask her about the stabs she successfully grew). Cat is also lactose intolerant. Cat's favorite thing about DUAC is the incredible people she's met while on numerous outdoor DUAC adventures.

Finn Soderstrom

COMMUNICATION

Finn is a freshman from Minnesota (shout out alum el pres) where he spent his time mountain biking, backpacking, and canoeing in and around the Boundary Waters and Quetico Provincial Park. His favorite activities are meeting new people, speaking German, playing with animals, and critiquing gas station burritos. Finn makes a mean breakfast of scrambled eggs and pancakes and is one of DUAC's most prized chefs. His favorite thing about the club is the people he has met!

Kate Baker

ON-CAMPUS PRESENCE

Kate Baker is a freshman from Atlanta, Georgia. (Go Braves!) She loves to get sendy on skis and walk around in the backcountry. Kate is a water activity enthusiast... wake surfing, anyone? Her most outstanding trait is that she is an expert in making GORP trail mix (good old raisins and peanuts) and dabbling in rehydrating foods. When it comes to academics, Kate studies environmental science, shoutout Olin Hall and Boettcher West. Her favorite thing about DUAC is the vibes, the stoke, and the awesome humans she gets to meet.

TRIP ANALYSIS

 Emma is a junior studying accounting. She's from Vermont which automatically means she's a HUGE maple syrup enthusiast (we don't make the rules). She a runner (massive track starrr) and loves to ski and camp. Emma's favorite thing about DUAC is that students get to experience the outdoors in ways that would otherwise be inaccessible. She has made some of her closest friends through DUAC and loves sharing the stoke.

PASS SALES

Adam is a sophomore from Sammamish, Washington studying mechanical engineering (BIG brain). His go-to hobbies are rock climbing and photography. Adam is a bouldering BEAST, not to mention an incredible photographer (the Unofficial DUAC Photographer). His favorite things about DUAC is the stoke and long walks at the dunes.

​Anna is a sophomore from Waitsfield, Vermont (big small town girl). She's a sophomore studying psychology. She grew up skiing the East and has gotten into climbing since coming to Denver. She also loves hiking, backpacking, and camping (what a well-rounded queen). Her favorite thing about DUAC is the community of outdoorsy cool people that she had the pleasure of meeting. Anna came to DUAC for the trips and stayed for the vibes.

Jared is a sophomore from Green Bay Wisconsin (which he claims to be the best Midwest state). He is studying in history and environmental science. Jared loves skiing and is a beast at the crag. He also enjoys hiking, rolling in sand, fireside nights at Penitente, and generally being outside. His favorite thing about DUAC is getting sendy with the guys and gals. As illustrated above, Jared is a lover of trees.
