FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Membership/Joining DUAC
Who is eligible to participate with Alpine Club?
Alpine Club (aka DUAC) is open to all current University of Denver students (undergrad AND graduate students) taking at least 1 credit hour. DU faculty/staff, alumni, or community members are not eligible.
Do I need any experience to join DUAC and/or go on trips?
Absolutely not! Many of our members are beginners and are students looking to try something new! We are open to students of all levels, unless a trip is specifically marked as an advanced-level trip (usually only 1-2 trips/year land in this category).
How do I become a member?
You can register online anytime during the academic year (Sept - May). Your membership is good for that academic year. You will need to purchase another membership for the following academic year (it comes with that year's water bottle and shirt!)
How do I meet other students interested in the outdoors?
Come to our massive kickoff meeting during Week 1 of Fall Quarter (typically Week 1 Wednesday in Davis Auditorium)! Coming on trips and to our Wednesday meetings are also great ways to meet other DU students with similar interests.
What benefits are included when becoming a member? Free gear?
Beyond the countless great times to be had on all of our trips, signing up to become a member also gets you priority registration on all trips, discounted trip prices on all of our trips, a free DUAC Nalgene water bottle, and this year's DUAC super comfy T-shirt! Additionally, all of our members are hooked up with various discounts through companies like Icelantic, Evo, Flylow, Smith and more.
Trips
Where do I find trip lists?
You can find current trip lists on this website at Current Trip List and previous trip lists at Trip History. You can also find our trip lists on our weekly emails (at the bottom of the email).
Where do I sign up for trips?
Sign-ups are online! Register online here.
- Registration is first-come, first-serve with members being able to register in the first 24 hours the trip is open. Non-members must wait 24 hours to register (a shortened priority registration window may be provided for Week 1 trips of each quarter).
I'm trying to register as a member/for a trip and it's asking for a username and a password. What is it?
Unless you have already previously logged in and changed it, your username is your DU ID number & your password is also your DU ID number. It is NOT your PioneerWeb credentials. You can also reset/retrieve your password on the log-in page before attempting a log in.
What do I need for my trip?
You should receive an email for a pre-trip meeting. These meetings go over packing lists and any relevant information for your trip. Let trip leaders know if you need a sleeping bag, sleeping pad, etc. For many of the trips we offer most gear.
How much do trips cost?
The pricing for our trips varies trip by trip. Check out our Facebook page or weekly email for current trip prices. You can also find current trip prices on this website at Current Trip List and previous trip prices at Trip History.
- One of the best parts about DUAC is being able to provide trips at a much lower cost that what you can do on your own. Why go on your own when you can go with fellow DU students at a lower price?
How can I get a discount on trips?
Two ways.
- #1 Become a member. Members always get a lower rate for every single trip!
- #2 If you are 21+ years old, you are eligible to be a driver on trips! Drivers receive a 50% discount on trips in which they drive for. Visit our Trip Basics page for how to become an eligible driver and email us to let us know of your interest so we can let you know if we need drivers on a trip! Once cleared by the university to drive AND the trip leaders confirm that you are eligible to drive for a trip, please request a discount code from the leaders before you register online.
How hard is it to get on trips?
It depends. We have some trips that will sell out in under 1 minute. And we'll have some (usually ski buses) that will not even sell out at all. Typically, you must be a member to get onto at least 90% of our trips as demand is incredibly high.
- Don't get discouraged if you can't get onto a trip! Join the waitlist for that trip and you never know - we may ask you to take a spot. Also be ready to sign up for a trip you really want to go on the second it goes live - that (obviously) will increase your chances!
I registered for a trip, but can no longer go. What can I do?
If it's a non-ski bus trip, we only offer refunds if the trip is full and someone from the waitlist is able to take your spot. For ski bus trips, we unfortunately cannot offer any refunds or transfers (so make sure you are 100% in before you register!) For both situations, let a club officer know so that they can plan accordingly.
Other
The Epic Pass or the Ikon Pass - which should I buy?
A: We run ski buses to all of the Colorado Epic and Ikon Pass resorts (usually 1 trip to each local resort/year), so it's completely up to you on which one you prefer! Local resorts are the ones no further than 2.5 hours from campus.
- For 2020-21, we were able to land students a SWEET deal! DU Students can shoot us a message and we'll share that with you!
I'm an incoming student and don't know how to get started. What do you recommend?

#2 Register online to become a member when it opens in September.
#3 Attend the Kickoff Meeting during Week 1 of Fall Quarter.
#4 Sign up for trips when they go live online (the second they go live - we're serious).
#5 Attend the pre-trip meeting for each trip. #6 Go on the trip, meet new people, and have fun!

I have a question that isn't covered on your website. Who is my best contact?
If you locked yourself out of your RecTrac account (i.e. trying to purchase your membership or sign up for a trip), contact clubIMsports@du.edu or call the Coors Fitness Center Front Desk at 303.871.3845 and mention that your RecTrac account is locked and it needs to be unlocked. (P.S. You are locked out because you tried the wrong username/PW to your account too many times in a row...remember, it's not your PioneerWeb PW).
