KATHRYNE ELLINGTON MEMORIAL FUND
In February 2002, the University of Denver community lost a dear friend, Kathryne "Katy" L. Ellington. Katy was on an Alpine Club trip in Telluride, Colorado, when she passed away in a skiing accident. Since then, students, the Alpine Club, and the University of Denver have established the Kathryne Ellington Endowment Fund to give students the opportunity to learn to ski and ride at a low price.
All gifts to this fund are used to provide ski or snowboard lessons and equipment rentals to beginner level students. The purpose of this fund is to give students the opportunity to learn how to ski or ride. This is an amazing way that students, who have never had the opportunity or funding to try skiing or snowboarding, to get on the mountain.
Five dollars of your Alpine Club membership dues is credited as a gift to the University of Denver towards the Kathryne Ellington Endowment Fund.
ELLINGTON BEGINNER SKI TRIP
During winter break (usually mid-December), students can sign up for the Ellington Beginner Ski Trip. This trip is held on the Sunday following the first week of Winter Quarter.
This day trip is for beginner skiers/snowboarders who have little to no experience on the slopes. Trip dues cover charter bus transportation to a local ski resort, lift ticket, full-day beginner lessons taught by resort instructors, and all equipment (apparel & food are only items not included).
We are fortunate to offer this trip for a fraction of the cost of doing it on your own (usually under $40 for DUAC members)! You can choose either skiing or snowboarding as your beginner lesson.
