Driving for Alpine Club 101

Picture
In order to provide a high level of quality for our trip attendees, all vehicles used for Alpine Club trips are either charter buses (operated by a local company) or Enterprise rental vehicles through a university corporate account.  The University of Denver requires that all drivers are 21 years or older (we strictly follow Risk Management protocols).
  • With us transporting hundreds of students each year to the mountains and around Colorado, we need drivers to make sure we can take as many students as we safely can!

If Alpine Club needs you to drive for a trip, your trip dues will be 50% off for that trip.  Our need for drivers vary, so sometimes you will get to drive for multiple trips/quarter, while sometimes we only need a couple non-officer drivers in a quarter.  The best way to drive for a trip is to reach out to club officers as early as possible.  We won't know you want to drive unless you tell us!

Step-By-Step Instructions

Total work completed by a prospective driver should not need to exceed one hour. There is no cost for you to complete this process - the university pays for your Motor Vehicle Record check.
STEP 1: REVIEW DU'S DRIVING POLICY
You can find that policy here.  Link opens as a new tab.

STEP 2: COMPLETE THE 45 MINUTE DRIVER SAFETY COURSE ONLINE.
Complete the Driver Safety Training Course - this is completely free to do.
  • The link and any codes you need to put in are on their website.
STEP 3: REquest a motor vehicle record (MVR) Check
Request a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check via a short form on that website.
  • Type in Athletics & Recreation as your "division" and Alpine Club as your "department".
STEP 4: COMPLETE THE INFORMATION YOU WILL RECEIVE from hireright IN 1-2 BUSINESS DAYS
This email likes to sometimes land in your junk/spam folder.  Please check that if you don't see it after 2 business days.  The information you will provide to HIreRight is used to process your MVR check.  Once you complete it, all appropriate agencies will have your information on queue to review your request.

This can take a few hours for you to be cleared...or 2-3 weeks.  Every state, county, and local agency is different.  This process is out of the control of the university.

*If you live or have lived in the state of Washington, you may be sent an additional form that must be completed by the Student Programs Manager.  You may reach them at clubIMsports@du.edu.
STEP 5: SEND YOUR CLEARANCE EMAIL TO THE DUAC OFFICERS
Regardless of result, you will get an email from DU Risk Management stating your final status.  If you are cleared, please forward that email to the DUAC Officers.

This email will be from risk@du.edu, which is DU Risk Management.
